Event overview
Take advantage of this opportunity to benchmark the role of HR and lean. This event will include lean leadership development and lean transformational work within the HR function. Additional speakers will present at this event on both lean leadership and applying lean to HR.
Attendees will learn about the two key aspects of lean and HR which cover both how lean methods can be used to improve HR functioning and the important role of HR in driving successful lean transformations, including implementing new leadership approaches. Key topics include the lean leadership development program used at Ingersoll Rand and the work in two key processes of HR, including the approach to visual management in the HR area.

- Learn how to build a lean culture through lean leadership capabilities.
- Gain the experience of seeing advanced lean transformation work within the HR function.

McKee Foods Corporation
Melissa Smith is the human resources manager for McKee Foods Corporation in Gentry, Arkansas. McKee Foods is best known for its line of Little Debbie® snack cakes. Gentry Operations has approximately 1,600 employees. Melissa has worked for McKee Foods for 27 years and is responsible for a staff of 23 which encompasses human resources administration, recruiting, training and development, health and wellness, and safety.
A Northwest Arkansas native, Melissa received a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of Arkansas in 1987. She is a member of the Northwest Arkansas Human Resources Association and the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). Melissa has a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certificates.
Melissa has served as a leader in many professional and community organizations in Northwest Arkansas, including the University of Arkansas’ Center for Management & Executive Development Advisory Board, 4-H Youth Development Volunteer Leader and Domestic Violence Council. She is currently serving her fifth 3-year term on the Associated Industries of Arkansas Board of Directors.
