ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: AME Hosts Leadership Development Event at West Point

The Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) hosted a leadership development workshop at the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point March 21-23.

The Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) hosted a leadership development workshop at the U.S. Military Academy (USMA) at West Point March 21-23. The event included a complete behind-the-scenes tour of the Academy and in-depth presentations focusing on strengthening competitive advantage with better leaders.

Attendees discovered practical methods that their organizations could use to define, plan, implement and measure leader identification, training and development systems.

On the first day, Lt. Col. Dave Jones led the group on the Academy tour to illustrate how the USMA instills values, leadership skills and ethics in its cadets. Following the tour, Jones held interactive discussions on leadership and character development concepts, providing parallels between the military and business worlds.

Joe Barto, founder and president of TMG Inc., a company that builds programs and systems to help clients improve business performance, led the second day of the event. His presentation, “Leader-Powered Lean: Heartbeat Leaders First,” offered attendees team engagement theory and shared best practices and lessons learned from the service, distribution and manufacturing applications to help leaders focus on improving business performance.

Finally, the event ended with world-renowned author Steven Spear presenting “Greatness is Possible, but Rare” on the last day. As an expert on leadership, innovation and operational excellence, Spear’s presentation offered attendees both the tools and inspiration to bring leadership strength back to their organizations.
