From the CEO: Teamwork built on respect, courage and, yes, even love

AME | February 12, 2021

You might have heard the phrase “Teamwork makes the dream work.” It’s corny, for sure, but that doesn’t make it any less accurate.

Coming on the heels of last weekend’s Super Bowl, the idea of teamwork is fresh in my mind. When you watch a team come together to accomplish a goal, you’ll notice cooperation, mutual respect and a community where everyone pulls in the same direction.

Successful teams are made up of individuals who care about one another’s welfare and success. When they push each other, it is grounded in respect and done in productive ways meant to inspire. Teammates have each other’s backs and they show this when they empower each other, take time to connect personally and professionally, and make the commitment to allow everyone to bring their unique perspective so that all may contribute and flourish. Being a teammate is a partnership of one team focused on one goal.

The coincidental timing of the Super Bowl falling just before Valentine’s Day reminds me that there are elements of love that go into teamwork. If you’ve ever been part of a successful team, you know this to be true. The word “love” is often reserved for our families and closest friends, but think about the times that you’ve felt part of something bigger than yourself. The teamwork that allowed you to be successful likely included respect, courage and, yes, even love.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, I’d like to send our members, volunteers and staff a virtual Valentine. Thank you for your continued dedication to AME’s mission. Through love and mutual respect, we’ve worked together to help North American manufacturing, health care and other industries weather adversity. Thank you for your enduring partnership and continued commitment to the teamwork that will help our community thrive.

As always, please stay safe and keep looking out for one another.
