This week is our exciting U.S. football finale! While my team is not in Super Bowl LVIII, I do have a favorite, as I am sure you do.
As Superbowl Sunday approaches, I cannot help but think about how important continuous improvement in manufacturing is to the success of the most important United States sports event of the year. When you think about what goes on behind the scenes, it is not so different from our organizations.
Standard work is in place to address everything, including the event, security, infrastructure, ticketing, marketing, and the concession stands. Essential supplies and equipment must reach Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada in time to support Sunday's game. Can you imagine planning an event of this magnitude? Leaders must guide the way to achieve all aspects of the event.
Most of us cannot afford the hefty ticket prices ranging from around $7,000 at the lowest end to as much as $90,000. So, according to Finances Online, between 96 and 114 million people will watch online. Did you know that during the overall 11-year span from 2010 to 2019, the median viewership was 111.3 million, and the mean was about 108 million? The Super Bowl is the most-watched game in the United States.
It's Super Bowl week, and yes, I know, Taylor Swift is everywhere. For those of you who are not familiar with Taylor, where have you been?! For those of you Swifties, you know she is this era's musical voice. Whether you are a fan or not, her message about being fearless resonates with us all. "Being fearless isn't being 100% not fearful; it's being terrified but you jump anyway." As change agents, aren't we fearless every day?
And isn't that what the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy are gearing up for this week? Being fearless and continuously improving – just like us. So, whether you watch the game for the sport, the commercials, or Taylor Swift, I hope your team takes home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
As always, please stay safe and keep looking out for one another.
