Results through people: Leaders have no choice!

Start your practice of TWI job relations

Topic(s)

Overview

Training Within Industry (TWI) is a standardized program of routines to be used by management that, when practiced, are countermeasures to everyday problems that hinder the flow of production or the delivery of service. The desired ultimate outcome of TWI is people (at all levels) know of and are following standards and improving them where needs be.

Perhaps the most common "everyday problem" experienced across all industry and service suppliers is "does know, can do, but isn't." It is essential that the skills are present in your organization to primarily reduce the incidence of "knows, can, but isn't" primarily through building trust. It's easy to write, much harder to do, but very "doable" through practice of "foundations for good relations" part of the TWI Job Relations (JR) routine. Then, people are people, problems ("isn't doing") will arise which is where the humanized PDCA four-step JR routine for handling a people problem steps in.

Key Learning Objectives

Attend this workshop and you will:

  1. First tell Roche why you registered for this workshop. What do you or your organization need to do better in terms of "results through people?"
  2. Clearly see what TWI can be in your organization. (It can be different things to different departments.)
  3. Learn of the four foundations for good relations and the humanized PDCA routine for handling a people problem.
  4. Consider (in small groups) how you may be able to increase trust in your intent. You'll take small tasks away to try back at work.
  5. Practice the humanized PDCA routine.
  6. Understand the connection between Job Relations and Standardized Work.

Interactive Components

The introduction will be interactive; you'll first tell Roche why you registered for this workshop. This will be numbers dependent and last 15-20 minutes. Next, small groups will perform small tasks for 30-45 minutes. You'll practice the humanized PDCA for 30-45 minutes. About 60% of this workshop will be interactive.

Presenter

Oscar Roche believes strongly that excellence in business lies in the development of people capability. It is this belief, combined with extensive operations management experience, that permits him to add value to any organization he works with.

Across Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and the U.S., Roche specialises in developing the:
• 3 TWI (Training Within Industry) frontline leadership skills of leading, instructing and improving
• Scientific thinking learning patterns outlined in Toyota Kata (Mike Rother)

Roche believes passionately that frontline leaders have been ignored for many years and it is high time to now support their development in order for businesses to survive and develop. The practical nature of the TWI and Toyota Kata programs makes them the ideal vehicle to build leader capability development. So much so, that Roche practices the skills in his everyday working life.
