Bringing process maps to life: A hands-on journey from maps to models

An interactive introduction to process modeling

Topic(s)

Overview

Designing and improving processes is critical to achieving operational excellence. But what happens when real-world variability challenges even the most well-designed process maps? While static maps are valuable for illustrating an ideal state, they often fall short in capturing the unpredictable nature of real processes.

This interactive session provides a practical approach to bridging the gap between theoretical solutions and real-world outcomes. Participants will engage in a lean workflow simulation that mirrors common process challenges, such as bottlenecks, excessive work-in-process and rework loops. The session will guide attendees from creating current state process maps to building dynamic process models that enable “what if” scenario testing.

Participants will take on roles within the simulation, gaining firsthand insight into how handoffs, variability, limited visibility and rework affect workflows. After the first simulation round, teams will develop a value stream map to represent the process and use it to construct models that simulate potential lean countermeasures. These models will serve as a foundation for their strategies in the next round, allowing them to test improvements in real-time and evaluate their impact on process performance.

Join this workshop to gain valuable tools for tackling real-world process variability and making data-driven improvements to your workflows.

Key learning objectives

1. How to run experiments on processes that don't exist yet.
2. How to be confident that a process improvement will work.
3. How to get stakeholders on board with change recommendations.
