Overview
Reverse mentorship is a new way to connect executive leadership to rising leaders for shared learning experiences, closing generational gaps and cultivating information with authority. This concept swaps the traditional mentoring roles, where a senior leader is mentored by a newer team member, which creates a variety of learning and insight for both parties.

Josh Buchanan is an industrial engineering manager at Newport News Shipbuilding, where nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines are built for the United States Navy. Buchanan also volunteers as AME’s Emerging Leader program director, where he leads new and aspiring leaders to get involved, volunteer and learn what AME has to offer through group connections and guest speakers. Buchanan holds an MBA from the College of William & Mary and a bachelor's in mechanical engineering technology from Old Dominion University. 
Rob Hogan retired in 2018 as vice president of manufacturing and material distribution for Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, where he was responsible for manufacturing, material warehousing, delivery and logistics in support of all shipbuilding programs. Hogan was a master shipbuilder, having achieved more than 40 years of continuous service. He began his career with the shipyard as a welder and has held positions at all levels of production and construction leadership. Throughout his career, Hogan looked for new and innovative opportunities to improve efficiency while also improving the tools and equipment used by shipbuilders and their overall work environments. He won the NNS President’s Model of Excellence Award in 1998 for his process improvement initiatives in manufacturing.
Hogan is a graduate of the NNS Apprentice School and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Strayer University. He currently serves on the board of directors for STARBASE VICTORY and the Virginia Manufacturers Association. He is active in the Propeller Club, Port of Newport News and a member of The Apprentice School Alumni Association. Since his retirement, Hogan has worked as a special advisor to numerous companies in the shipbuilding supply chain. His clients have included Pegasus Steel, Riley Power Group, Trident Maritime Systems and Fairlead Integrated, LLC. Through his role as an advisor to these companies, he remains actively involved with Marine Machinery Association (MMA), Submarine Industrial Base Council (SIBC) and the Aircraft Carrier Industrial Base Coalition (ACIBC).
