Tour attendees will have an opportunity to visit LEI and see and hear how the lean gurus, James Womack and John Shook run their business. Do the lean leaders walk the talk? Of course they do. LEI is well into visual management, which it uses for scheduling training sessions and events. See examples of value stream mapping - the walls are covered with information. The office is open with low rise cubicles to encourage the exchange of information. Either James Womack or John Shook will be at LEI at the time of the tour to give a short presentation on lean and LEI.
The Lean Enterprise Institute, Inc., founded by James P. Womack in 1997, is a nonprofit education, publishing, research and conference organization with an action plan. Compared with traditional "think" tanks, LEI is a "do" tank. It carefully develops hypotheses about lean thinking and experiments to see which approaches work best in the real world. It then writes up and teaches what has been discovered, providing new methods for organizational transformation. www.lean.org
