Please join us for an introduction to Astronics PECO, where you will gain insight into products designed and manufactured for the aerospace industry. Astronics' lean journey formally started in the mid-2010’s, led by a manufacturing engineer’s excitement to help team members fix things that bothered them. This journey helped introduce the formal “Fix What Bugs Me” program and led to hundreds of submissions and activities across the factory. In addition, the introduction of visual management through tools such as daily management system (DMS) boards and andon lighting have continued to drive improvement discussions.
The team will share challenges faced during the departure of the initial CI Leader, COVID-19 interruptions, dealing with the volatility of the aerospace industry’s expectations, and the work that is going on to turn around customer on time delivery. Many of the efforts that were taken early held on through these challenges while others needed to be re-launched, including hiring CI-focused individuals into the key roles of director of operations, production manager and CI lead. The last year has been filled with company wide retraining, re-invigoration of the Fix What Bugs You Program, and leveraging PECO’s experience to support not only the local facility but the global Astronics facilities.
