Overview

Strategy deployment (also known as Hoshin Kanri and policy deployment) is a structured approach to clarifying an organization’s most urgent improvement needs — and creating organization-wide alignment and focus on how best to achieve one’s strategy.

Organizations that create and successfully manage a well-crafted strategy deployment plan achieve far greater results in a defined time period than those that don’t. Side benefits include a more cohesive leadership team and greater employee engagement.

In this practical, full-day workshop, Karen Martin introduces participants to a vital preparation step she developed — conducting “Extra Effort Inventory” — that enables organizations to create a more realistic and results-driven approach to executing their strategy.

Key learning objectives

  1. The common barriers to achieving organizational strategy and how well-executed strategy deployment overcomes them
  2. The requirements for defining organizational priorities, including a clear strategy to begin with and “true north” key performance indicators
  3. The steps and typical timeframes for creating an effective strategy deployment plan
  4. A step-by-step approach for conducting “Extra Effort Inventory”
  5. Facilitation tips for creating the plan
  6. How to use “catch ball” to gain organization-wide alignment and create deep engagement at all levels
  7. How to manage the strategy deployment plan
  8. How to mitigate leadership misalignment — at any stage — on organizational strategy and/or how best to achieve it

Participants will also receive electronic copies of two high-value resources they can tailor to develop their strategy deployment plan and define and retain focus on the priorities that truly matter.

Interactive components

  1. 20 minutes - What gets in the way of clarity about strategy and focus on defined priorities (with report out)
  2. 30 minutes - Practice conducting “Extra Effort Inventory”
  3. 20 minutes - Practice playing catchball
  4. VERY heavy discussion and interactive Q&A throughout
