Overview

Don’t throw them to the wolves! Has your organization trained continuous improvement practitioners only to see limited success with execution of improvements? Are these newly trained practitioners struggling to move forward in driving improvements? These are common pitfalls when organizations focus mainly on training in technical tools and methodologies, resulting in low or negative ROI on training and a potentially negative perception of the value of continuous improvement in the organization.

Coaches help others expand and apply their skills, knowledge and abilities, ultimately boosting their results. Coaching improves the performance of others by cultivating confidence in the practice and application of continuous improvement methods and tools and a broader sense of finding, clarifying and aligning personal objectives with overall organizational expectations.

This interactive and reflective workshop equips you with knowledge and teaches you how to apply the GROW coaching model to boost your coaching skills through active listening and effective questioning.

Key learning objectives

  1. Define what coaching is/is not and key coaching competencies.
  2. Recognize how coaching aligns with your role as a leader.
  3. Utilize the GROW coaching model.
  4. Practice and employ active listening and effective questioning techniques.
  5. Implement coaching best practices to improve the performance of others.

Interactive components

Participants will engage in an exercise to practice their active listening skills in pairs. One person will be the “talker,” while the other is the “listener.” The talker will describe an image to the listener, who will have to replicate the image based on what the listener hears. The listener will then compare their image to the talker’s version. Participants will discuss their experiences as a group. Participants will complete an individual self-assessment of their active listening skills. Participants will practice a round of applying the GROW coaching model in pairs.
