Coaching past denial and resistance

Highlights

Learn about coaching those who are not on board, in denial or “addicted to the status quo” and actively or passively resisting change. Join us for two days of skill-building practicum and learn-do-practice. You will learn how to:

  • Help people get on board with the change.
  • Break down active and passive resistance to change.
  • Get beyond compliance behavior and get the engagement of the hearts and minds of your associates and leaders.
  • Recognize what stage of change and leadership maturity a person is in and how to meet them where they are.
  • Coach based on the needs of the coachee rather than the needs of the coach.

Overview

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn several key models that will assist you in supporting genuine change that causes people to engage their hearts and minds.
  • Discover the “stages of readiness to change” model and the “stages of leadership maturity” model and practice their application in real conversations during the practicum.
  • Learn and practice effective conversation methodologies for different stage combinations.
  • Learn and practice an introspective reflection model that assists you in performing plan-do-check-adjust (PDCA) on yourself.
  • Understand where you are and where the other person(s) is/are so you can meet them where they are and bring about genuine change vs. the illusion of change (compliance).
  • Gain access to the “MI – Coach’s Helper to facilitate behavior change” app that will continue your learning and assist you in conversations with leaders and associates who exhibit the symptoms of “addiction to the status quo.”

To enhance your learning, we suggest you complete the following prework. The prework is not required but will greatly enhance your learning and ability to be a better leader and/or coach:
