AME launched the AME Values Veterans Program (AMEV2) in March 2014 to help energize America’s economy and help America’s employers understand how to re-capitalize their workforce through recruiting, hiring, training and retaining veterans.
What is different about AMEV2:
- AMEV2 focuses on educating, training and recognizing employers for hiring and retaining veterans as a part of their talent acquisition strategy.
Difference: 98 percent of the energy centered around veterans in America is focused on the veteran and/or supporting the veteran in how to find a job vs. the employers who actually can provide employment opportunities.
- AMEV2 targets local small to mid-size employers which collectively represent 80 percent of job creation in America.
Difference: In the recent past, most of the workforce efforts have been targeted towards the large Fortune 1000 employers; however, these employers generate less than 10 percent of American jobs.
- AMEV2 recognizes those employers who have hired and retained veterans in the past and have experienced an improvement in their business performance.
Difference: Most veteran employment programs focus on reduction of unemployment numbers for veterans as a charitable activity vs. a great business decision. American business can profit from hiring and retaining veterans because they are disciplined, have the technological base and have experienced a continuous improvement environment.
How the AMEV2 program works:
- Conduct a veteran awareness AMEV2 Symposium to gauge the employers' interest in moving from a vet-friendly employer to a vet-STRONG position by developing a compelling program to support employers.
- Based upon employer interest and their level of readiness, prepare and conduct AMEV2 customized workshops geared specifically on how to apply lean techniques to continuously improve their talent acquisition and retention process.
- AME plans to certify 30 AME employers/year as AMEV2 Certified Employers. These employers will pledge to hire and retain veterans for one year because they value the attributes and knowledge that veterans provide and have a desire to re-capitalize their workforce with veterans.
- Recognize AMEV2 Certified Employers at the AME Annual International Conference.
- Promote the Share Learn Grow mission of AME by capturing AMEV2 Certified Employer’s best practices and lessons learned, provide access to other AME services and networking with other AMEV2 certified employers so they may lead by example.
- Leverage the AME Manufacturing Job Board allowing veterans to access employers who are AMEV2 certified and have developed a focused veteran pipeline. The AME Manufacturing Job Board is the mechanism to support AME employers to access veteran candidates.
