DESCRIPTION

Zoo New England has been on their lean journey for over 10 years. Keepers must cover vast amounts of space with heavy equipment and often in dangerous environments. Mistakes can be costly even deadly to both animals and humans. The goal of the CI program is to make things easier, better, faster and safer for zoo employees. The tour will highlight several of the accomplishments to date. Zoo staff have been trained in Lean methodology as well as have been at the forefront as facilitators for an increasingly popular Lean Belt Certification program designed specifically for the animal healthcare community. Staff have been coached by Bruce Hamilton, President of GBMP (Greater Boston Manufacturing Partnership), Gerry Cronin, Kaizen Promotion Officer at MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital) Center for Comparative Medicine, and Steven Spear, Principal at The High Velocity Edge, LLC, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Business School.
